The procedure for UK Certificate Attestation

Step 1. Prepare Your Original Documents

Gather the original Indian documents you need to use in the UK. These can be:

    • Personal documents (birth/marriage certificates)
    • Educational records (degrees, mark sheets)
    • Police clearance certificates (PCC)
    • Commercial or business papers

Make sure they are complete and correctly issued by the relevant authority.

Step 2. Get State-Level or Local Verification (If Needed)

Before MEA apostille, some documents need a local or state stamp:

    • Educational certificates may need verification from the issuing university, State HRD/Home Department or SDM.
    • Personal papers often just need notarisation and sometimes SDM or local authority stamping before going to MEA.
    • Commercial documents might go through a Chamber of Commerce first.

This step depends on the type of document and the issuing authority.

Step 3. Submit to the MEA for Apostille

The MEA attaches an apostille sticker which certifies your document for use in any Hague Convention country — including the UK. After processing, you’ll get back your original document with the official MEA apostille certificate.
